The Best Places to Take Family Photos in New York with the NYC Skyline

The best place to take photos in New York City is subjective. Some families choose according to what’s convenient from their home while other families are willing to travel to a distant borough, wanting something new and different each year. I can tell you the best spots based on view, foliage and time of day and for this post I’ll be focusing on spots that feature the NYC Skyline.

Domino Park, Williamsburg

Domino Park is my stomping ground and I just love meeting families here. It’s a well-landscaped park with fun architectural elements and a raised pathway. There is a great view of the Williamsburg Bridge, and of course, of the Manhattan Skyline. It’s hard to go wrong with Domino Park and I always recommend it to families who are looking for “it all” in one tidy package.

Hudson River Park

Want the view of Manhattan without actually leaving Manhattan? Hudson River Park offers the dynamic backdrop of lower Manhattan with the bonus of being convenient for many families in Tribeca, Greenwich Village and Soho. Although there are several points in this long river park that are worth visiting photographically, if you’re after the view then head to Pier 26.

SOUTH STREET SEAPORT

Old meets new at South Street Seaport. The Seaport boasts views of the Brooklyn Bridge and it has loads of old Manhattan charm. Out on Pier 17, the Downtown Manhattan Skyline looms large behind you. South Street Seaport offers a big impact all within a few short blocks.

Central Park South

It’s no surprise that Central Park is a great setting family photos. The park offers a great diversity of foliage and architecture, with beautiful pathways and bridges to frame your family. When you pick a spot in the park that offers all of the above + the skyline? That’s as New York as you can get.

Dumbo, Brooklyn

With access to the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, Dumbo is a hot spot for photos with recognizable scenes that scream New York. Virtually every corner is photogenic, but because of this, virtually every corner is also filled with professional photographers and influencers with iphones. It’s still a great choice, but careful planning will help your family maximize this location.

Madison Square Park

Located in the Flatiron District, Madison Square Park offers incredible views of one of New York City’s iconic buildings. While the park itself is a lovely photo setting, often with rotating art installations, I always make a point of getting a family photo with the Flatiron building on display.

Gantry Plaza State Park, Long Island City

Just a quick hop away in Queens, Gantry Plaza State Park has everything you need for a perfect day of photos. Midtown Manhattan looms large in the background, while the Pepsi sign adds a touch of whimsy. Although it’s pretty all day long, this park really shines at sunset.

Beyond its towering skyscrapers and bustling streets, New York, NY, holds a treasure trove of hidden gems, enchanting neighborhoods, and picturesque locations that beckon locals and tourists alike. From the iconic Central Park, with its sprawling meadows and winding pathways, to the dazzling lights of Times Square at night, the city is home to a number of spots to explore.
